The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich
A History of Nazi Germany
by William L. Shirer
5/5
Simon & Schuster 1280 pages October 1, 1960
William Shirer's definitive account of Nazi Germany, written by a journalist who witnessed Hitler's rise firsthand. Drawing on captured German documents, diaries, and Shirer's own reporting from Berlin, this remains the most comprehensive single-volume history of the Third Reich ever written.

Jim's Review
🐛
At 1,280 pages, this is the Everest of history books, and Jim summited every last page. Shirer was THERE — he watched the Nazis rise to power as a correspondent in Berlin, and that eyewitness perspective makes this hit differently than any academic history. It's exhaustive, it's devastating, and it's essential reading for understanding how democracies die. Five worms. Jim's copy is dog-eared to shreds.
